[Narrator] Basting.
00:14
Begin by removing the turkey from the oven.
00:16
This makes basting much safer.
00:19
Using a bulb baster or deep spoon,
00:21
pour the juice from the bottom of the roasting pan
00:23
over the top of the bird.
00:25
You'll probably end up doing this two or three times
00:27
during the roasting process.
00:29
When you do, do remember that you wanna close the oven door
00:32
as you work so you don't lose too much heat.
00:35
That's one of the reasons that turkeys
00:36
end up taking a long time to cook.
00:39
Basting a turkey not only enriches its flavor and color,
00:42
but keeps the bird moist.
00:44
If the bottom of the pan seems dry
00:46
after a couple of hours of cooking,
00:48
add some broth or water to it.
00:50
You can baste the turkey one last time
00:52
after it comes out of the oven.
