50 People Try to Peel and Cube a Potato | Basic Skills Challenge

It's no longer kitchen or military busy-work when you set the potatoes in front of a camera! 50 people each try to peel and cube a potato. Like 48 of them basically do it. Someone uses a cheese grater. I don't know...it wasn't even staged.

Cooking shows always need
00:01
at least one person with an accent.
00:03
If you cook and you don't have an accent,
00:05
you're just Guy Fieri.
00:12
Peel and cube.
00:13
Um.
00:14
Okay, so we need a peeler over here.
00:17
Where is it?
00:18
What is this?
00:20
Nope, that doesn't, okay.
00:23
This isn't working.
00:24
I found something that works really well.
00:27
There gotta be a faster method.
00:31
This thing is kinda dangerous.
00:33
Ow, I cut myself.
00:35
I had a slight incident.
00:37
So cubing the potato, hmm.
00:41
This thing, you just like put it, meh.
00:43
You push the cube, oh.
00:46
Oh.
00:47
You want to cube stuff like this.
00:49
What do you do with the round ends?
00:50
Because these aren't gonna be cubes.
00:52
Picasso would be proud.
00:54
This is as close as it's gonna get, I think.
00:56
Of course, I can cube and peel this.
01:00
I'm gonna use this potato peeler.
01:03
I'm going to peel away from me so I don't cut myself.
01:07
Kinda hold your fingers back
01:08
sort of like you're throwing a knuckle ball.
01:14
I remember doing this at grandma's house.
01:17
Voila, like surgery.
01:19
And to cube.
01:20
Soon as possible, get yourself a flat surface.
01:24
Now that I'm on a flat surface,
01:25
I can cut downward like this.
01:30
I do a lot of turning and moving, as you can see.
01:33
Line them up perfectly.
01:36
You want to get things as closest to a consistent size,
01:40
which sadly to say, this is not.
01:43
Who needs perfect cubed potatoes?
01:44
What are you gonna use that for?
01:46
Just eat your potatoes.
01:50
So we're going to peel and cube a potato here.
01:54
We're just gonna peel this potato.
01:56
This is pretty straightforward.
01:58
What we're looking to do is make perfect and even cubes
02:01
out of the potato.
02:02
It's always nice to have a nice flat side to start with.
02:05
In order to get perfect cubes,
02:06
what we're gonna have to do is
02:07
we're gonna have some trim.
02:08
These guys can become mashed potatoes or potato soup
02:11
or any number of preparations.
02:13
The first thing we want to do is even up the shape
02:16
and get rid of our trim here.
02:18
We're going to come across and we're going to
02:20
cut this into flat planks.
02:23
And then we're gonna come back and cut our planks
02:24
into rectangles.
02:27
And then we're gonna come back across the other direction
02:30
and we're going to cut these one more time.
02:34
And what we end up with is a bunch of matching potato cubes.
02:43
Whoo.
02:44
All done.
02:45
I think they're close enough.
02:46
Voila.
02:47
That looks like some cheese, doesn't it?
02:49
It's not.
02:51
It's potatoes.
